Don adopted Blue this week. She's a 7-year-old former sled dog. She
wasn't sure what to think of the group and the hike but you could tell
she really loved it by the end!

Blue
Hot Springs
We were headed towards the Hot Springs. Once we got there though, we
were VERY hungry and not in the mood for a dip!
Angel Creek
Angel Creek. It was crystal clear and cold on Saturday. To answer a
question I know you would all ask: I did not swim. This is at the
trailhead where we parked.
hike
It was a beautiful day for a hike! Brian and I went with some of my
coworkers. It was LONG (8.3 miles) but it was beautiful and totally
worth it. (the trail handout puts the total elevation gain at 2000
feet!) We went from the Angel Rocks Trailhead (the trail we hiked at
Memorial Day) only this time we hiked all the way to the hot springs!
We're pooped-- more pictures tomorrow (we probably won't be doing much
after today!)

puppies again!
Tessa's daughter helping me take pictures of the puppies (I took one
of her too, she's a cutie too!).

sunset
Haven't been out and about when the sun goes down in a while. It had
just slipped below the hills when I took this. Way out there are some
hills but between there and where I was it's just flat. The bright
spots are lakes/ponds/water.
Brian
Brian, shaking his head after I took a picture of him biting into a
soft pretzel. Lucky for him, I won't post it. I really like this
one. ;-)
You'll notice the Alaska State Fair wardrobe consists of layers and a
raincoat!

Bridge over the Tanana
This is the bridge over the Tanana at Nenana. (ha!) I took a drive
to Anchorage for the weekend. We went to the fair, among other
things. More pictures tomorrow!

new purse
I haven't blogged in waaay too long! I just got new batteries for the
small cam and the big cam is, well, big. Anyway, popped in some fresh
ones for this shot, even though my new purse isn't in focus, it's
FINISHED! I did ok with it-- it was a very complicated bag-- an oval
for the bottom and a liner. I think it's pretty-- blue/grey on the
outside and a soft vine-y fabric on the inside. This is my living
room-- sewing machine set up in front of the TV. Good stuff.

more sewing!
Made this bag just now! It's made of my remnants I've scrounged up.
Purple paisleys and plain brown for the outside, and the cowgirl
fabric and a yellow fabric for the lining. It was finished with
"french seams" (aka EASY). Got some practice with sewing curves too!
All in all, a good Sunday afternoon project!

interesting
Thought this one was sort of interesting... It's those bright flasher
fireworks lighting up the smoke. Looks like the end of the world, I
think. (also looks darker but that's kinda artificial)
Fireworks
Today I learned that my "dark fireworks" experience means nothing when
trying to photograph fireworks in sorta-light Alaska.
Anyway, the fireworks are for the end of the Tanana Valley Fair.
Technically the sun has set by 11, but it's still not dark, as you can
see.
high water
High water! It's still pretty rainy up here. Not as high as the
water was last week, but still pretty high. That's the University
Road bridge over the Chena River.
seat cover
Here's my first iteration of my custom seat cover. Well, second, I
guess. The first try was just vinyl and it tore at the stitches. So
this try I made the fabric cover by pinning it inside out on the seat
and then sewing the seams. I was planning I tacking vinyl to the
outside, but it turns out the vinyl fits perfect inside. So the
fabric cover gets wet (it did tonight) but the seat stays dry. Good
solution for now, I guess, but I'll keep working on it. Like the
fabric?! I found it in the remnants pile. ;-)

best fenders ever
Today at work, by the coffee machine, a guy said "I see your fenders
are still hanging on." Yeah! They are! I take them for granted but
look how muddy they are! And they were mostly free! Just used a half
gallon milk jug. I should patent this... jk

Ship Creek
Brian and I went down to Ship Creek to watch some fishing. He said
low tide isn't the best time to catch fish but people were catching
things! It was fun to watch.
Denali
Denali from the plane ride to Anchorage. On the way down it was a
Dash 8 but on the way back up to Fairbanks I was on a Beechcraft 1900
(I think). It was soo tiny. There was no flight attendant or door
between the cockpit and the passengers. It was pretty wild to be able
to watch the pilot! We even were instructed on how to operate the
main door!
I had a great weekend... took a bunch of pictures... more tomorrow!
