We said goodbye to Marais this week. It was sad to say goodbye but she
wasn't herself anymore and we know we made the right choice. This picture
was taken after Walt and I took her cross-country skiing-- she could grow
quite an ice beard! We're left with lots of pictures (this is one of our
faves!) and even more memories of all the adventures we shared together in
the last 15.5 years!

unphotographable
there's a website I found years ago called "unphotographable" where
you can write in and describe the picture/feelings you just couldn't
capture with a camera. I had my own moment tonight, contorted on the
floor in front of my back door, peering over my peaceful, snowy
backyard at the moon... It was all blue and white, except for the
moon.
lunar eclipse
snapped a few shots from my dining room tonight. Not quite perfect
conditions (including my lack of proper tripod, cold weather, the
orange lights of the elementary school behind my house and the angle--
straight up!) but not a bad shot anyway. About 10 minutes before the
"peak" some clouds rolled in and that was it...

tinsel tree + sun
Mom sent me a package of Christmas goodies including this glass
nativity set. It goes PERFECT under my tinsel tree! I usually post
pictures of it with the lights on (love the pink lights!) but it's on
a timer and the sun was hitting it just right today... I love how the
tinsel looks a little tarnished (though a lot of this glow is the
orange-y winter sun).
Finally decided on a light fixture!

Finally decided on a light fixture!, originally uploaded by aimos325.
And installed it today! I took down the old one almost a year ago... whoops! It looks awesome with my smooth ceiling and I even splurged on dimmable, instant-on CFL's.

reflected sunset
A few times a year the sun is at the perfect angle to reflect the
sunset off the Chevron Building right into my office! This was taken
at 3:30 and it was dark by 4.
beautiful sunrise
The sunrises have been beautiful lately... It's been crystal clear
(and cold!). This was taken at 10:30 am.

winter wonderland
cannot get enough of this snow! It's so gorgeous around here! This
is why I love Alaska in the winter! The warm glow of the low sun, the
winter skies, the snow lightly settled in the trees... I'm heading
outside!

frosty walk
It's been so gorgeously frosty around here! Today I went for a walk
down to Lake Hood with Jeremiah-- it was so pretty!

Election Day
Usually the top of this building has moving, colored lights meant to
look like the Northern Lights. I think it's a really cool building and
I can even see it from my street! Anyway, was driving home from
swimming last night when I saw they had changed it to red, white and
blue for yesterday. How cool!

Independence Mine
I detoured towards Hatcher Pass on my way home. I was tired and
feeling lazy but I was so close (15 miles or so) so I went anyway.
The sun was low enough that the light was great and perfect for
pictures! So I'm glad I went after all...
Termination dust
Satuday I took a hike to the other side of the lake and was rewarded
with this view! That's termination dust-- it gradually moves lower
and lower down the mountain. It's been melting a little but then it
just snows more... Winter is coming!
fall scene
we missed the peak colors-- perhaps it was that really windy day we
had a few weeks ago? Still found some pretty fall scenes!
view from Meier Lake
this was our view from the main meeting hall where I attended the
Alaska United Methodist Women Annual Meeting. We sang A LOT, learned
a few new things and I met some really cool women. I love this
picture for the colors in the mountain-- so many interesting
pastels... Then a thin stripe of bright while snow against the dark
clouds (you know I always love that!).

grandma's quilt!
Mom and I worked so hard this weekend! 10 or 15 years ago, Mom asked
her brothers and sisters to make quilt blocks for their mom. She got
the blocks back but didn't know where to start... so after Christmas
I brought the blocks home with me and trimmed, fixed and added
borders. I also made all the 9-patch border blocks. So when Mom came
up we decided to tackle it! It went together easily, we found a
gorgeous backing fabric and machine quilted between the blocks and all
the 9 patch blocks. We sewed on the binding late last night so Mom
could take it home with her. I heard she finished the binding on the
plane! She's going to do the hand quilting in all the heart blocks
and then it's done!!! I think it turned out great! I can't wait for
Grandma to get it!!!
