<> This was bare grass yesterday! Meanwhile, the days
are getting longer and sometimes it feels like spring... Just not this
morning.

yuck!

yuck!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

This is what the back of my pants looked like at Church this morning.
Whoops. Wish my fender hadn't broken yesterday. Also, I wish it'd
quit snowing. Please?

In other news, I haven't driven my car since last Sunday. This should
save on gas money, but not money overall-- I've been spending a lot on
bike stuff lately!

downtown

downtown, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Saw this downtown Fairbanks today. It wasn't a very nice day but I
rode around a little anyway. Tomorrow I'm planning on riding to
church! Fun!

fun

fun, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It's 11 pm, there's a bonfire, it's snowing and we're playing
tippy-cup. Fun stuff. Pretty light out too, eh?

The landlords, Carma and Dylan had some friends over and invited me
too-- it was great fun!

drats

drats, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It snowed again. It's supposed to this weekend too. Luckily it
should stick right around freezing so it won't stick long. (You can
also tell how fast I ride in this picture)

what can I say?

what can I say?, originally uploaded by aimos325.

I've got a thing for reflections. Can't help it. And it was so
beautiful today!!! I'm going to go play outside!

birch

birch, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It's "my favorite light" a lot up here. From about 8 to 10 these
days. I foresee many pictures this summer. ;-)

Creamers Dairy

Creamers Dairy, originally uploaded by aimos325.

The state owns the farm now. It looks like interesting history/farming/wildlife displays. I'll have to go back sometime when it's open. They also have a few miles of nature trails and boardwalks.

Creamer's Field

Creamer's Field, originally uploaded by aimos325.

This area used to be a dairy farm. Every spring they bulldoze the
snow around and put down seed. I guess birds have been stopping here
forever-- before the dairy farm, even. It's a pretty big deal--
people get excited about spring around here and a LOT of people were
out to watch the birds. I saw geese and swans, but didn't look too
hard for anything else.

new kicks

new kicks, originally uploaded by aimos325.

New bikes shoes with my new pedals! I wore them around the office (no
one cares!) and I wore them to dinner and the grocery store tonight.
I can really cruise when I'm clipped in.

drainage issue

drainage issue, originally uploaded by aimos325.

When the snow melts up here, it melts all at once. Between yesterday
and today I've seen at least 5 pumps/contraptions to drain yards.
Glad I've got a rear fender.

shades

shades, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Took off my shades around 9. Got into Fairbanks around 10:30-- wasn't
quite dark. The trip is shorter when you don't get a flat tire! What
a fun weekend in Anchorage. Didn't take many pictures though :-(

drivin

drivin, originally uploaded by aimos325.

No big deal, just driving to Anchorage on a Friday night.

grrr

grrr, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Got a flat last night on the Parks highway. Called AAA and they said
"we'll call you back" so not wanting to waste any daylight, I started
on it myself. I stopped every time a car came by (there weren't many)
and got it done all by myself. Didn't even take long. So today in
addition to my regular shopping in Anchorage, I gotta get a new tire.
:-(

work

work, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Here's me, all ready to go in the utilidor. I was squinting cause it
was SO SUNNY (but so cold, danggit) and who needs to smile if you've
got a respirator over your mouth!? Luckily no cockroaches made it
into my tyvek suit...

snow!

snow!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

I rarely look out the windows in the morning. Monday I was rushing around
(like usual) and I opened the door to leave and SURPRISE! 4-6 inches of
wet, heavy, new snow. It has made the ride in a little more interesting
than usual this week. The day it snowed it got into the mid-30's leaving a
crust over everything... a bike-tire-grabbing crust. I can't wait for
spring!

Drive to Alaska Pictures!!!

Drive to Alaska, March 2008

Finally, pictures of the drive to Alaska! It took forever to pick the ones to put up and caption them and make sure they're in order... there are still a TON of them-- good luck!

Blue Loon

Blue Loon, originally uploaded by aimos325.

This is the Blue Loon. It's been described as "the cultural epicenter
of Central Alaska." They have bands (good ones too-- Cake a few
summers ago, Wilco this summer), the back half is a movie theater
(that is converted to dance club after the movie) and good beer...
All in this unassuming building a few miles out of town...

Chena River

Chena River, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Today I rode my bike to Fred Meyer to cash some checks and pick up a six pack.

It was a nice ride-- busy roads but lots of bike paths and frontage
roads... pretty nice. :-)

Alaskan Cockroaches

Alaskan Cockroaches, originally uploaded by aimos325.

<> First let me say we did not go into this
manhole-- I just found this picture. This is an 8" pipe. Those are big
cockroaches. (can you spot the albino one?) Oh gross.

daylight is nice. :-)

for Jen

for Jen, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It seems like the Byle's are hogging the blog this week. But I
couldn't help it tonight.

I was at a department store and they had designer's names all over the
side of the wall. "Nine West", "Oscar De La Renta", etc and then
THIS!

I'm going back sometime, preferably not 5 minutes before they close
(like tonight).

The Museum of the North at the University of Alaska

right behind me would be DENALI, which I could see today but the
camera could not. :-( Maybe another day.

utilidors again

utilidors again, originally uploaded by aimos325.

I spent yesterday and today climbing in and out of utilidors. It was
nice to get out of the office and pretty cool to see this stuff, but
dang! I'm sore! And tired! All those ladders!!! I also think I got
a little sunburned. Too tired to take pictures, maybe more exciting
things tomorrow. :-P

excuse me, looks like you've got a little utilidor manhole on your rust...

cool, originally uploaded by aimos325.

View down the utilidor manhole. I see steam, condensate, water and
sewer down there! Utilidors are often used in arctic climates instead
of burying the pipes.

engineer fun

engineer fun, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Steve (the safety guy from EHS), Anne, Karen and Danny. Brownies,
utilidors and tyvek suits-- what more could you want?! We got fitted
for respirators to go down in the utilidors because there is some
asbestos down there.

Holy wah!

52 degrees in Fairbanks today!!! Spring is coming!
