me

me, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Here's me in my untested pink raincoat and helmet (of course!). I
rode to the store (with a starbucks!), got some milk and fruit (heavy)
and rode around town afterwards. Turns out frappacinos won't splash
around whilst still frozen, but once they melt, you could have a mess
in your pannier. Learned that the hard way!

Stopped to touch the river and saw some pretty flowers. Snapdragons,
even! That's the Chena River in the background.

wet lilacs

wet lilacs, originally uploaded by aimos325.

I didn't let the rain stop me from riding around town today (although
I'll be honest-- not a drop fell on me!). These lilacs were drying
off after a rainy morning.

Fireweed

Fireweed, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It's called fireweed because it's often the first thing to grow after
a forest fire. This one, however, was found in the middle of town
just off the bike path along the Chena River (new way to ride to
church!)

office plants

office plants, originally uploaded by aimos325.

So I sprouted a clipping and potted it! I'm so proud of myself. At
the end is a new leaf coming! The vine on the wall and on the shelf
comes from the pot at the end of my cube. The thing is huge! It
spans 5 cubicals!!!

piles

piles, originally uploaded by aimos325.

These are piles driven into permafrost. Or not driven... I saw them
in the basement of the engineering building at the University of
Alaska Fairbanks. Each of them are made of 1/2 inch steel or so.

nice day

nice day, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It was a great day to be working outside! I took this picture on
accident. I had the camera duct taped to a manhole hook (like a big
crowbar) and I was setting it up to take a picture farther into the
manhole than I could reach. It was a clever solution that worked very
well. ;-)

lilacs!

lilacs!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

They've got lilacs in alaska too! I was getting worried! Sorry for
the crappy picture, I was on the bike. (something about the
composition is really off-putting but I still love these flowers so
it's ok!!!) They smelled lovely!

bike stuff

bike stuff, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Worked on my bike tonight. Put on new tires-- they're not as knobby
(but not completely slick) and I can pump them up really hard. So far
so good-- I think I can feel the lower resistance already! I also
have a completely stocked flat kit and a new, beautiful (pearly blue)
floor pump.

rain!

rain!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It was in the mid-80's today, but dry. Really not too bad. It rained
in the afternoon (like it often does) but it didn't rain for long and
we dried fast. It was a great way to spend the solstice!

riding

riding, originally uploaded by aimos325.

We had 5 people and 2 canoes, so one person just rode. I rode first,
but paddled later! It was a good time.

Riverboat Discovery

After the Canoeing we ate at the Pumphouse and saw the Riverboat
Discovery go by. The thing is huge!

(Your 3rd shift birthday party! So handy for me!)

My baby brother is 19!

Roses. In the top right is the Tanana River.

view

When I stepped to the edge of the overlook I could smell all those
roses! Wish I could have captured it, but you'll have to take my word
for it. Sometimes I wish for smell-o-vision but often I don't. This
is the Tanana River from the Richardson Highway.

work

Went down to Delta Junction for work today. Can't complain. Never
saw any jobsites with a view like this working in Flint!

magic tree!

magic tree!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Caught this at the Farmer's Market yesterday. Less farmers, more
crafts! It was very cool but if you're looking for vegetables, look
hard, and if you're looking for fruits, you're out of luck! Lots of
cool stuff and food!!! Anyway, the colors are a reflection off of
something shiny.

on the shortcut

on the shortcut, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Today I took the shortcut home and stopped to smell the roses! For
real! It had rained after lunch and was just starting up again as I
took off for the remaining 2 blocks home.

calm

calm, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Nice, peaceful river. Good for wading and looking at for a while...
only look for a while, don't wade for a while. That water is COLD!

The falls again. So pretty! Of course we would never go past the end
of the trail... ;-)

After the view of the falls we took the trail down to the creek.
Cliffs, water, leaves, very pretty.

Thunderbird Falls

Thunderbird Falls, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Thunderbird Falls. Pictures really can't do it justice. It's quite a
canyon the falls pour into.

Ranger Brian Brian pointing out the dangers of devil's club!!! It's
spiky on the the bottom too!

walk in the woods

walk in the woods, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Friday after work I flew down to Anchorage to hang out with Brian.
Such a long drive but a quick flight! We went to check out
Thunderbird Falls on Saturday. The walk back to the falls was very
pretty!

Lunch

Lunch, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Today I had lunch at Bun on the Run. According to a coworker, it's a
pair of women who set up shop in this parking lot in the summer and
then leave when the snow starts to fall. Not a bad deal :-). And you
know it's good if people are willing to sit on logs in a parking
lot!!!! It was delicious. I had a sandwich made with homemade bread
and a slice of chocolate zucchini cake.

Also known as Arctic Rose, according the wikipedia. So pretty!

Chokecherries!

Chokecherries!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

You would not believe how good Fairbanks smells these days.
Chokecherries are everywhere!!! This morning I rode to work after a
nice nighttime rain smelling these guys... mmmm... Summer is here!

Flowers

Flowers, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Flowers are out!!! I don't know what these are but they're pretty.

keys

keys, originally uploaded by aimos325.

I was patting my pockets looking for my keys when I found them
here... about 12 inches away from the hook I usually hook them on...
but hey, the lightswitch works too!
