Success!

Success!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

My first salmon! Caught her at the Russian River last
night with a fly I tied! It's a good feeling-- sure makes feeling so
tired today a little sweeter.

new bike!

new bike!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

introducing the newest addition to my family: a Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo!

I got it on craigslist. It's a good quality bike and it's been taken
care of. Just need to swap on my own seat, do a little brake
adjusting and do something about those grip shifts! Argh! This is
going to be my winter bike... might take it on some dirt, too. ;-)

Kenai River again

Kenai River again, originally uploaded by aimos325.

a shot of the people almost shoulder to shoulder on the kenai. I've
heard from other people that they have been literally shoulder to
shoulder... Around the bend is the confluence of the Kenai and the
Russian River. Only about 100+ fish/day are making it up to the
counter on the Russian these days-- at the peak of the run, 5000
salmon/day were counted. The fishermen are very effective...

flowers

flowers from my balcony. It's so nice having them out there-- I think
my balcony is the prettiest in the building!

I snagged a little rainbow trout by near the tail. Poor little guy!
Don't worry, he's fine! Snagged a red salmon too but couldn't keep it
because it was snagged on the back.

Kenai

Kenai, originally uploaded by aimos325.

went down to the Kenai River last week after work. It was raining
when we got there-- rainbow and all! We fished for a few hours, Brian
got a hook in his arm and we went to the ER on the way back... one
hour of sleep and off to work again. It was fun, hard, crazy, and
tiring... but we want to do it again!

Caterpillar

a picture for you, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Went to Alissa's after work today to sit in the grass, read,
chit-chat. She has lilacs AND catapillars in her yard and is making
her own garden!

Lion's Head

Another shot from my drive yesterday. It was cloudy but still pretty
spectacular. Just a sunday afternoon drive... (am I lucky or
what?!?!)

glacier

glacier, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Matanuska Glacier. It looked pretty on my way out, but on the way
back it seemed the clouds opened just enough to make the white surface
of the glacier GLOW. So pretty!

rocks and my feet again

rocks and my feet again, originally uploaded by aimos325.

the river with the pretty colored water. It's cool to see different
rivers and different concentrations of rocks-- not sure I've ever seen
one with so much granite. The next river I drove over was "Granite
River" so there seems to be a theme. Also, those are my new shoes--
they're crocs with a canvas top. ;-)

King's river-- I loved the color! It was neat to see it mix with the
opaque Matanuska River.

green!

green!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

So green! This is King's mountain, I think. It's the one that looks
like a pyramid off the Glenn Highway. I drove out to Eureka today,
had dinner, and drove back. That's the Matanuska River on the bottom.

Commuter pants!

Commuter pants!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Instead of using hem tape to hem my pants I used this reflective
stuff. It's pretty thick but I think it'll work out ok. I'm gonna
add a snap or 2 so I can fold them up and snap them to keep them out
of my bike chain. (darkness isn't really an issue right now but these
will be handy once the days get short again)

ME

ME, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Yours truly-- fishin last night. New waders! Waders are fun-- it's
the closest thing to swimming up here.

very pretty.

snagging rig

snagging rig, originally uploaded by aimos325.

This is the snagging rig-- just a treble hook with a big weight on it.
You just try and snag the fish-- not actually trick them into
swallowing the hook. Snagging isn't considered especially sporty, but
the resurrection river is stocked and red (sockeye) salmon is
delicious so I'm not complaining.

Snagging in Seward

Snagging in Seward, originally uploaded by aimos325.

We went snagging last night at the mouth of the Resurrection River in
Seward. We drove down after work-- got there around 10, high tide was
12:30 am and we drove back around 4 am. I think we just missed the
best of it-- lots of people walking out with their limit while we were
going in. Brian snagged one on his second cast but all of us were
skunked after that.

bleeding heart at Brian's. Seems like just last week we got leaves--
now we've got flowers and wild roses and everything!

this is the last thing those fish are going to see as I'm yanking them
out of the water... ;-) (I finally put my waterproof camera under
water!)
