steep
There aren't many pictures of the way down. Not sure if we took the
wrong trail or what, but it was STEEP and we came all the way down
pretty darn quick. (my legs are feeling it today!) And the perfect
end to the day? A soak in the hot springs and maybe the best pizza
ever...
rocks!
The trail wound over and around a bunch of these rocks, getting higher
and higher. They're Tors-- formed a long long time ago and all the
softer rock and soil has eroded, leaving just these behind. You can
see the trail on the bottom left.
Campsite
Brian came up from Anchorage for Memorial Day weekend. We didn't have
any set plans, but we drove towards Chena Hotsprings. To get there
you drive through the Chena River State Recreation Area, which we knew
would have some interesting things to see. First, we found a
campsite...

Cranes (again!)
Sick of the cranes yet? I picnicked again but before I got to the
bench I went by a parking lot where they were SO CLOSE! So I tried
again, this time with the small camera... It was a nice night.

Red Sky at Night
Sailor's delight? Think that applies to Alaska? And what if the sun
sets at 11:30? No wonder my sleeping schedule is all messed up. (pic
is out my door at 11:30 pm last night)

new panniers
tested out one of my panniers today with a (small) load of groceries.
So far, so good! Wish my feet were shorter...

2 am in Fairbanks
It's 2 am in Fairbanks. Well, 1:50. No more nautical twilight for
us, only civil twilight now, which means the sun stays within 6
degrees of the horizon. Seems like earlier in the spring it was easy
to notice the days getting longer-- now it's easy to notice the nights
getting a lot less dark! Better hit the hay, the sun comes up in just
over 2 hours.

seen on base
They're tearing down the old Bassett Hospital on Fort Wainwright.
It's slow going! (And don't worry, the new one is up and running
already!)

Matt and Walt
The boys... we went to North Pole, AK tonight! They're standing
under Santa. And in front of a barbed wire fence. It was lovely.
