Spent some time on my car and on my bike tonight. I wasn't able to find
which light is out on the car (it's telling me one is out but I can't find
it-- it's pretty hard to do by yourself) but I did get the bike computer
working, adjusted the brakes, greased the chain and installed a new milk jug
fender. I'm a big fan of the milk jug fender. First of all, it's
effective. Second, it's durable. My last milk jug fender lasted almost a
year and through a Fairbanks winter (tested to -50, though there's not a big
need for fenders at that temp). The store-bought fender broke-- I couldn't
get it tight enough so it wouldn't bounce onto my wheel. Third, it only
costs a gallon (or half) of milk. And you get to drink the milk! I'm ready
for breakup!!!

block
this is a block I made tonight for a secret project... I did it with
paper piecing, which is kind of fun because you get these intricate
designs without having to measure and cut and line things up but also
very frustrating. I ripped a lot of seams tonight!

morning
This is a shot from my drive to work last week. The days are getting
longer, you can feel the warmth of the sun on your skin... it felt
like spring last week but today we woke up to a bunch of new snow and
lots of wind-- not spring yet!

Ramen Surprise

Ramen Surprise, originally uploaded by aimos325.
Ramen + whatever is in my fridge. Tonight it was an egg, corn and cheese (which happen to be my favorite ramen surprise ingredients ever). Also I have been enjoying Red Hook's Mud Slinger. It's their seasonal beer-- a nut brown. Always have to try the beers with bikes on the label and this one doesn't disappoint! Almost makes up for Red Hook discontinuing their blonde (though this is NOT a blonde!).

Swim meet
Had another swim meet this weekend! It went pretty well, though it
was in yards and (unfortunately) I still remember my times from high
school. eek! Oh well, I still think I did pretty good and was happy
with the races I picked. (back in the 400 medley relay (new state
record!), 200 free, 100 IM, back in the 200 medley, 200 IM, 500 free
and the 200 backstroke)
Andrea is the middle swimmer in the pic!
flakes
Thursday I woke up to 8 inches of snow-- it was snowing like crazy!!!
I brushed off the car at lunch and when I came out after work, there
were a few perfect flakes on my car. It was so pretty! I grabbed my
camera and held my breath to take a few pics!

Denali
I'm never satisfied with the pictures I've taken of Denali from my
office window but this is the closest I've come... With my own eyes I
can see the crags and peaks but it just comes up as a white blob on
all my cameras. It's over 200 miles away and even Mt. Hunter (the
smaller peak on the far left) is over 14,000 ft-- pretty amazing!
flight school
This is a Cessna 172 from a place that teaches people how to fly.
Today it was just circling Merrill Field.

line at the car wash
lots of people had the same idea as me today. I got tired of getting
dirty getting in and out of the car! It's been above freezing for a
week or 2 now but we know it's all just a tease. I'm sure winter will
be back soon but I'm enjoying this for now!
my needy car
this weekend I had 3 lights lit up on my dashboard: "light out", "low
gas" and "low washer fluid". CRIPES! Whine, whine, whine! Just
kidding. I got gas and washer fluid but haven't found which light is
out yet. It's a puzzle. (PS I still love my car!)

winter ride
Got my bike out to ride to the store this afternoon. Couldn't pass up
this sunshine but still had errands to run! This is the trail along
Northern Lights and the blue blob is the tip of my lobster gloves--
whoops!

plows came!
The plows came yesterday! I went to shovel afterwards but they're
pretty nice-- didn't leave a ridge of snow at the end of my driveway!
You can see they don't mess around-- using graders and not traditional
plow trucks-- though I really don't see the plows very often. We're
pretty tough though. ;-)

mountains
This is my view from my mailbox... gotta walk a few doors down to get
to it and I always appreciate the view along the way.
I'm all moved, though not settled. Tonight I dug out my card reader
and battery charger... more pics from now on, I promise!

Saw 2 moose today!

Saw 2 moose today!, originally uploaded by aimos325.
First, I was driving to my house and when I turned onto the road there was a humongous moose on the side of the road! Then, on my way back to my apartment I had to wait for this guy to cross the parking lot. I don't normally see a lot of moose around my part of town so this was a crazy day!

P1216851.JPG
Another work window shot... The sun FINALLY came out today and I liked
the reflections from our building onto the yellow building and also off
the building downtown that illuminated a sliver of remaining fog... I'm
a fan of the freezing fog-it's dreary but then it coats everything in
white for a little bit. I think we got it because it's been in the 20's
and then dropped down to single digits today. Better than ice fog any
day!

Cerimonial photo
Took this while scraping THE LAST of the popcorn from the ceilings downstairs. Just need to do a little patching (I did a really good job in the dining room though (toot toot!)-- now that I know what's going on and how much of a pain it is to deal with ripped paper) and priming and I'm ready for a little spray-on orange peel and PAINT.

beautiful day
it was a beautiful day in Anchorage today! Caught a glimpse of the
mountains on a quick trip to Home Depot today.
scraps
I brought some a stack of squares of fabric my mom had been working
on-- some of the fabrics come from Grandma Johnson, some from my mom
and some from my Great Aunt Alice. I think the squares would look
pretty in a nine patch arrangement. Got a lot on my plate right now
but I can't wait to get going on some sewing projects!
popcorn free!
SHEW! Finished removing the popcorn today. Had a few glasses of wine
during the homestretch... the edges turned out to be pretty easy,
just a lot of moving the ladder and sore hands since I had to switch
to a small putty knife instead of my 10" wide scraper on a pole. Next
up: smoothing out the rough spots and the places I ripped the paper.

Aimee vs. Popcorn Ceiling
Got about 12 sft of smooth-ish ceiling. Not gonna lie, I'm a little
discouraged (it's HARD) but not giving up!!! Put a little paint on
the walls too, test spots of "sassy green" and "viva gold". When the
guy handed them to me he said "ok, and here's the sassy... and the
viva." :-)

Chicago Cultural Center
This is the old public library and now it's the Cultural Center.
Gorgeous building. Around the base of the dome reads: "Books are the
legacies that a great genius leaves to mankind which are delivered
down from generation to generation as presents to the posterity of
those who are yet unborn. - Addison" Fun fact: the dome is the
largest Tiffany dome in the world.
