What a view, eh? In the bottom middle you can see more Tors that we
walked around. The river is in the middle (We started at river level!)

Brian and I at the top! Shew!

rocks!

rocks!, originally uploaded by aimos325.

The trail wound over and around a bunch of these rocks, getting higher
and higher. They're Tors-- formed a long long time ago and all the
softer rock and soil has eroded, leaving just these behind. You can
see the trail on the bottom left.

The views got awesomer and awesomer...

Up Up Up

Up Up Up, originally uploaded by aimos325.

This is when the trail got interesting. It stayed
"interesting" (steep!) for a while. Quite a climb for this Michigander!

Trail

Trail, originally uploaded by aimos325.

In the morning we headed out to the Angel Rocks trail. It started out
along the river. This was the easy part.

rain

rain, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It rained a little, but we were by the fire so it wasn't bad. It
rained almost all night but cleared up in the morning, enough time to
dry the tent!

We camped on the shores of this little pond.

Campsite

Campsite, originally uploaded by aimos325.

Brian came up from Anchorage for Memorial Day weekend. We didn't have
any set plans, but we drove towards Chena Hotsprings. To get there
you drive through the Chena River State Recreation Area, which we knew
would have some interesting things to see. First, we found a
campsite...

Cranes (again!)

Cranes (again!), originally uploaded by aimos325.

Sick of the cranes yet? I picnicked again but before I got to the
bench I went by a parking lot where they were SO CLOSE! So I tried
again, this time with the small camera... It was a nice night.

Part 2 of the "out my front door" series. It was a rainy night and
the sky was glowing. About 11:30 again.

Red Sky at Night

Sailor's delight? Think that applies to Alaska? And what if the sun
sets at 11:30? No wonder my sleeping schedule is all messed up. (pic
is out my door at 11:30 pm last night)

2 am in Fairbanks

2 am in Fairbanks, originally uploaded by aimos325.

It's 2 am in Fairbanks. Well, 1:50. No more nautical twilight for
us, only civil twilight now, which means the sun stays within 6
degrees of the horizon. Seems like earlier in the spring it was easy
to notice the days getting longer-- now it's easy to notice the nights
getting a lot less dark! Better hit the hay, the sun comes up in just
over 2 hours.
