trying to figure out what kind of bird that big one is... I'd say it had a 4'+ wingspan... From the wing shape, it could be a falcon. It was grey with white speckles (almost polka dots)... lemme know if you know anything!
My first guess is rough-legged hawk. The shape and size match and the colors could (they can be light or dark and they're kinda spotty). They're migrating up north right now, so it'd make sense that it was flying along the water towards the north. (http://www.wpbo.org/featured/rlha/index.html)
