"off!"
Bentley decided this is where she wanted to sleep when we headed into
the tent last night. I kicked her off of the air mattress and onto
the sleeping pad. Spoiled ladies last night... until someone decided
to start splitting wood at 7:30 am.
and the award goes to...
This pit potty earns the award for prettiest view from a pit potty!
Wow! It's got about 270 degrees of breathtaking scenary-- just a few
miles into the Denali Highway.
Floodlands
The dam diverts flow to this area... There's a levy on one side that
stretches all the way to the Tanana River. Check out that neon green
grass and fireweed! I swear this is how bright green it was-- summer
in Alaska: can't beat it!
Dam!
Then I checked out the dam at the Chena Lakes Flood Control Project
(Chena Lake is part of the site/park). They can lower the gates and
block off flow to the Chena River to keep it from flooding Fairbanks
like it did in 1957.
Chena Lake
Saturday morning I woke up in my tent to rain and thunder. It was
about 50 degrees and rainy and I still managed to jump into this lake
with no wetsuit (water was warmer than the air!) and swim a 5k! It
was hard to keep going straight and I underestimated how foggy my
goggles would get but really it wasn't that hard. Just a little
longer than a swim practice and a great sense of accomplishment
afterwards. :-)
