We hiked to the shores of this glacial lake. We were still pretty far
away but I had my superzoom lens!

Gamma Iota
I didn't bring a camera (wierd, I know) but Erm was nice enough to
send along some pictures! It's been just about 10 yrs since we moved
into Good Intentions! Oh, and congrats to Rachel and Seth too!

Cool truck
Saw this cool old boom truck today. They were placing concrete rings
around the base of the piles they're using as light pole bases. I've
only ever seen poured concrete light pole bases.

Froggy
This is one of the pictures I printed out for our office photo contest which we held in preparation for the fair. We printed and mounted all the photos and then a coworker took a stack to enter in the State Fair's Photography exhibit! I kinda glossed over this one when I took it, but I liked it a lot more after I cropped it and it looks really cool printed out big! It's my cousin Lexie holding a frog she caught when we walked down to the lake from the Cut River Bridge.
Bad blogger
I've been a bad blogger but here's a pic from Friday. Some rubber
matting at a playground caught fire! Looks pretty dramatic but no one
was hurt.

"off!"
Bentley decided this is where she wanted to sleep when we headed into
the tent last night. I kicked her off of the air mattress and onto
the sleeping pad. Spoiled ladies last night... until someone decided
to start splitting wood at 7:30 am.
and the award goes to...
This pit potty earns the award for prettiest view from a pit potty!
Wow! It's got about 270 degrees of breathtaking scenary-- just a few
miles into the Denali Highway.
Floodlands
The dam diverts flow to this area... There's a levy on one side that
stretches all the way to the Tanana River. Check out that neon green
grass and fireweed! I swear this is how bright green it was-- summer
in Alaska: can't beat it!
Dam!
Then I checked out the dam at the Chena Lakes Flood Control Project
(Chena Lake is part of the site/park). They can lower the gates and
block off flow to the Chena River to keep it from flooding Fairbanks
like it did in 1957.
Chena Lake
Saturday morning I woke up in my tent to rain and thunder. It was
about 50 degrees and rainy and I still managed to jump into this lake
with no wetsuit (water was warmer than the air!) and swim a 5k! It
was hard to keep going straight and I underestimated how foggy my
goggles would get but really it wasn't that hard. Just a little
longer than a swim practice and a great sense of accomplishment
afterwards. :-)

Take a Hike!
Today I hiked up towards Near Point. We didn't go all the way because
it got pretty muddy but we were high enough to get some gorgeous views
of Anchorage! The trail is in the Chugach mountains on the east edge
of town. Three girls and four dogs-- way fun!
Rain gear!
Gretchen gets rain gear! Friday night excitement at my house was
installing fenders on my commuter (Gretchen). Saturday morning I've
never been so excited to wake up to rain! I even broke out the
raincoat for the pannier and hit every puddle on the way to town. :-)

someone got bored...
I think Bentley was bored of waiting for me to take pictures of all
the flowers, pretty leaves and lichen! In fact, she's bored right now
and won't stop whining about it!
the group
Here's a group shot we posed for. We had Walt press the shutters on
TWO cameras and then run-- invariably if we both pressed our own
someone wasn't ready when the other pressed it! Doesn't Bentley look
tough in this picture?!
more of the Thompson Pass flora...
Can't get over those red/pink tipped leaves! And the texture on the
leaves on the right!

fly fly away!
I watched him clumsily flap over to a nearby branch on the other side
of the fence... finally venturing out beyond my yard...
baby bird
Yesterday I found just one baby bird left in the yard (we had been
watching 2 on Saturday night). This guy finally made it to the top of
the fence but wasn't so sure what to do after that! Momma's been busy
bringing worms around to all her babies!

Wild Sweet Peas
These wild sweet peas were blanketing the gravel bars along the
Richardson Highway. So pretty!
feet pictures are more difficult now
we were standing on a glacier and the light was coming up through it--
it was glowing! So gorgeous! (BTW I'm not standing on her toe even
though it looks like it)
alpine wildflowers
We thought this plant smelled amazing! The leaves looked like
rosemary but the scent wasn't the same. This was almost lemon-y. I
looked it up today and it's Labrador Tea, which is used for teas and
herbal remedies.
Thompson Pass
Thompson Pass was spectacular, as usual. I have the best luck finding
good weather up there! (knock on wood!)
Worthington Glacier
We hiked up around Worthington Glacier. None of my other pictures
even come close to showing the scale of this. That's Walt (looking at
rocks) and see the 3 guys on the glacier?
